Matthew's contribution to the Paul McCartney tribute album is heading to record stores! Read on...
On October 9th, Oglio Records proudly releases Listen toWhat The Man Said: Popular Artists Pay Tribute To The Music of PaulMcCartney. The 16-track compilation features many of today's most giftedsongwriters and musicians paying loving tribute to one of rock's mostenduring figures, Sir Paul McCartney. A second offering, entitled Coming Up:Independent Artists Pay Tribute to the Music of Paul McCartney, will bereleased October 23rd.
Featuring artists such as SR-71, members of Barenaked Ladies, Matthew Sweet,Semisonic, World Party, They Might Be Giants and others, Listen to What TheMan Said boasts new interpretations of such classic songs as "Every Night"(Matthew Sweet), "Junk" (a collaboration between Steven Page and Kevin Hearnof Barenaked Ladies and Stephen Duffy of The Lilac Time), "Waterfalls"(Sloan), "Ram On" (They Might Be Giants) "Too Many People" (Finn Brothers, formerly of Crowded House and Split Enz), "Band On The Run" (byNashville-based power-pop icon, Owsley), and "Man We Was Lonely" (WorldParty), among others.
In the 30 years since the breakup of the Beatles and the launch of PaulMcCartney's solo career, there has not been a major tribute to hispost-Beatles catalog. Some would say that the reason for this is because theoriginals stand on their own and covering them jeopardizes theirintegrity -- a valid argument that the producers of the album took intocareful consideration. Ultimately, it was agreed upon that a whole newlistening audience exists that may not be familiar with the originalversions of these classics. For those already familiar with this body ofwork, it serves a chance to revisit these timeless tracks
Compiled by Kirk Waldrop, Kelli Richards and James Flaherty of Tribute LLC(a company formed in 1999, whose mission is to organize, produce and promotemusic and entertainment-related events and recordings that directly benefitcharitable organizations), the genesis for the albums came out of theirmutual love and respect of the music of the Beatles and Paul McCartney, anda genuine interest in raising money for breast cancer research in memory ofLinda McCartney's amazing life. A large portion of the proceeds received byTribute LLC will be donated to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The common factor among the artists chosen for both releases is that allwere heavily influenced by McCartney and highly respected his work. Each ofthe artists that participated graciously agreed to waive their studio costsand royalties to ensure that a larger portion of the proceeds would bedonated to the Komen Foundation. This project is truly a labor of love forthe producers and all of the participating musicians.

Thanks Angela & Stephanie, and most especially Linda and the Matthew Sweet mailing list for reporting the latest Sweet News. Matthew Sweet has collaborated with Hanson to write a song for Hanson's 3rd album. The song, "Underneath," is potentially the title-track contender and all are thrilled with the results. The following is an excerpt from the Wall of Sound story:
Hanson also hooked up with Matthew Sweet for a new song, "Underneath," that the band considers the song to be "a title-track contender" for the next album.
"We went out [to Los Angeles] planning to write with Ben Folds, and then our time schedules didn't work out," says Taylor. "We met with [Sweet] a couple nights before and had dinner with him, and we said, 'Hey, let's write,' so we just hooked up one night and recorded a song."
"It happened in four hours," says Isaac. "It was ridiculously fast. We've done co-writes before that have been so long and so unnecessarily laborious. This was an incredibly good fit and we wound up with what we think is a really, really good song."
Hanson hopes to include footage of the writing session with Sweet in a documentary about the making of the third album that the brothers are directing and hope to release along with the disc.

Hi all! I was recently sent the following email. I thought I'd share it with you. It's a very worthy cause that Matthew is involved in. Read on...
My name is Kelley Bevis, and I am writing from RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network). RAINN operates the only 24 hour hotline for victims of rape and sexual assault. Since our inception in 1994, RAINN has taken over 400,000 calls and provided information to millions of others.
As a benefit for the hotline, WXRV in Boston recently put out a compilation CD that includes a song from Matthew Sweet. The song was performed live inthe station's River Music Hall, and is available only on the RAINN compilation.
Matthew Sweet was kind enough to donate the song for the RAINN CD, and WXRV has donated the CDs, so 100% of the proceeds from the CD will be used to provide services to victims of rape.
Live from the River Music Hall also includes exclusive live tracks from Barenaked Ladies, Tori Amos, Cowboy Junkies, Suzanne Vega, Ani DiFranco and other top acts (complete track listing is below).
